Department of English
The English Hons. syllabus reflects the developments and trends in the field of lierary and cultural studies which have taken place in the last few decades, completely changing the way in which we approach literature. The opening up of the literary cannon has led to the inclusion of authors in English Literature as well as Contemporary Writings in English and in translation from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, Canada and India. The syllabus is taught by committed teachers and scholars who specialize in different areas of the discipline. The English department also runs a department library to make recent publications available to the students. The English Literary Society, INKLINGS, has been active in organizing lectures, seminars, literary festivals etc. The faculty supplement conventional teaching methods with screening of films and staging of plays.
The study of English enables and equips students to branch out in areas as diverse as Media Studies, Mass Communication, Journalism and Literary Studies.
