Co-Curricular Activities

ACADEMIC AND CULTURAL SOCIETIES The college has a lot to offer to the students by way of cultural activities (such as debating , dramatics and music) which are organized through societies under the guidance of teachers. A College Choir, a Bhangra Team and the Dramatics Society has been functioning under professional supervision. There are various other academic societies, whose activities are organized under the guidance of respective departments.

EXTENSION LECTURES AND SEMINARS Under the able convenorship of dedicated faculty members the committee regularly orqanlzeslectures on various issues relating to specialized fields of study, inviting reputed scholars across disciplines from India and abroad to give students and teachers a window to explore possibilities of contemporary academic exchange and advance research.

SPORTS From the traditional fields of Kabaddi to the international games of Weight-lifting, Football and Cricket, Deshbandhu College has had a long and revered tradition in sports. In recent times, this tradition has manifested itself in successful participation in different games and sports in various colleges and University level competitions. The college teams have won laurels in Weight-Lifting, Power-Lifting, Football, Cricket and Chessat various levels. Besides providing appropriate facilities for practising various games sports, outstanding sportspersons are provided with sports-kits for participating in various Delhi University tournaments and state championships. The department of Physical Education and Sports Science organizes open tournaments, workshops, seminars etc. for college students, staff members in different games / sports. Students desirous of participating in any of these games/sports may contact Ms.Anjum Padyal, enroll themselves and participate in good spirit and enthusiasm.

N.C.C. The college has two senior division NCCCompanies with a strength of 160 cadets each for girls and boys wings respectively. The NCC which was introduced' in the University and the College in 1948 through an Act of Parliament under the chairmanship of Pt.H.N. Kunjru, aims to shape up youths and unveil their hidden potential to face challenges and be winners in life as also to have semi-army manpower to deal with natural calamities, assisting army from rear in wars and the war casualities. The recruitment/enrolment for first year students as cadets starts just after completion of admission process of the college and remains open till mid of August at concerned NCCoffices. Students interested in training programmes may contact the respective officers - Army Wing (boys) - Capt. (Dr.) Pramod Kumar (Department of Commerce); N.C.C. (girls) (N.C.C. Room).

N.S.S. National Service Scheme (NSS) is a unit of the college that organizes various workshops (debates, painting, theatre, leadership orientation, blood donation camp, AIDS awareness programme etc.) and seminars with the sole aim of personality development of the students. Students, here, get a chance to work, with national and international NGOs and also visit universities under various exchange programmes. Interested students can' enroll themselves as NSS volumteers with Dr. Vivek Saxena (NSS Programme Officer, Associate Prof. in Chemistry)

DESH- THE COLLEGEMAGAZINE The college brings out an annual magazine DESH which contains articles, poems and short stories written by students. It also reviews the educational, cultural, social and sports activities of the college. It has sections in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Sindhi and Bengali.

TREE PLANTATION The college undertakes tree plantation for green and clean environment. A tree plantation programme is annually undertaken and saplings are procured from the Forest Deptt.of Delhi, to plant along the boundary wall and different areas of Colleges campus.

DEBATING SOCIETY Under the guidance of Mr. Krishnan Unni P, Deptt. of English, the debating society, "Crusaders", engages itself in weekly discussions of many topics of interdisciplinary approach and helps to articulate the view of the members logically and powerfully. Over the years, the team members have done excellently well; winning Best Speakers Awards in All India Level Contests (2009-10), Best Team Prize in L.S.R., DCAC Best Team Prize, Gargi College Debate Best Team etc. at the University level. The debating society has won the maximum number of individual and team awards at the university level during past few academic years.

MIRRORS: DESHBANDHU DRAMATIC SOCIETY A group of extremely, enthusiastic, talented and dedicated students, under the able guidance of Ms. Sherina Joshi, Deptt. of English is actively engaged in bringing out their acting skills. Last year, they showcased an excellent stage performance based on. Mahashweta Devi's "Hazar Chaurasi Ki Main" at Sri RamCentre,.Mandi House, New Delhi.

PHOTOGRAPHY SOCIETY DBC Photography Society, "SHARP SHOOTERS",opened this year, under the guidance of Mr.Saswata Bhattacharya, Asst Prof of English, will introduce and create awareness for enthusiastic students to the most advanced forms of the art, covering almost all genres of photography to help them pursue an alternate independent career in future.
